Mariana Jönsson studied law at the universities of Fribourg, Neuchatel, Stockholm and ESADE Barcelona. After graduating in 2005, Mariana joined FIFA’s Players’ Status Department, where she eventually assumed the position of Deputy Head. During her almost seven years with FIFA, Mariana gained profound knowledge and experience in the fields of football-related labour and transfer disputes, training compensation and solidarity mechanism, FIFA’s Transfer Matching System, match and players’ agents, eligibility of players to play for national teams as well as the respective jurisprudence of FIFA’s deciding bodies. Furthermore, Mariana was the main responsible for arbitration procedures at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and in this capacity represented FIFA in numerous cases before the CAS.
Mariana is fluent in German, English, Spanish and French and has a good knowledge of Swedish and Serbian/Croatian. She also has moderate skills in Russian.
